Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure used to improve the aesthetic of the nose and is commonly recognized as a nose job. The nose is one of the major physical features as it is located in the center of the face. If people are dissatisfied with the appearance of their nose, it is likely that they will suffer a lack of self-confidence and automatically be drawn to their nose when they see photographs of themselves. The size and shape of the nose are often inherited from parents and there is little that can be done to make the nose look significantly bigger or smaller aside from having surgery.
A nose job can be done to decrease or increase the size of the nose, restructure the nose or address any bumps on the bridge of the nose.
As successful Rhinoplasty at Face Med Store does not interfere with the skin as the procedure involves the bone and cartilage tissues. In the case of a rhinoplasty reduction when the nose is reduced in size, cartilage and bone tissue are removed to make the nose appear smaller. In the case of augmentation rhinoplasty when the nose is increased in size, additional materials including bone and cartilage are used to boost the existing structure of the nose. Before the procedure, the surgeon will inspect the nose carefully and discuss the client’s expectations. This is to ensure they are aware of the results the patient has in mind and can meet these expectations. A general anesthetic is used during the treatment and the process will take between 1 and 2 hours. During the procedure, the surgeon will separate the skin from the bone tissue and remove or add cartilage or bone tissue, dependent on whether the client wants a larger or smaller nose, after which the nose will be re-shaped to improve aesthetics. When the surgeon is happy with the outcome the skin will be repositioned over the nose and left to heal.
Recovery After the procedure there may be some swelling and bruising around the eyes and nose, but the clinician will provide pain relief to ease discomfort. Swelling around the eyes may last up to three weeks and bleeding may be apparent. It is advisable to avoid blowing your nose for around one week after the operation. The dressings will remain in place for one week following treatment and the surgeon will arrange follow-up appointments to monitor the individual’s progress. It is sensible to avoid strenuous activity for between 2 and 3 weeks and patients should not participate in contact sports for at least 6 weeks after the procedure. Most people return to work after 7-10 days.
Risks and Side-effects
It is common for the patient to experience inflammation and bruising around the eyes. Though pain relief should ease discomfort this is likely to take a couple of weeks to disappear. A splint will be placed to help support the nose and dressings will be used to stem bleeding and keep the nose clean. These will be taken off after one week and it is common for the nose to feel slightly hard after the swelling starts to go down. It is not harmful and does not affect the look of the nose. Scarring is usually minimal because incisions are made inside the nose during rhinoplasty.
Like most surgical procedures there is a threat of infection, but complications are extremely rare and most patients are delighted with the outcome of the procedure.
